Research Workshop – Warsaw 2017 – Summary

The first workshop of the International Community gathered in Warsaw on February 28th 2017. The workshop was attended by 16 researchers representing the different international research groups (Israel, US, Poland and Romania) as well as Prof. Polanski Anthony joining as a guest researcher.

During the first part of the workshop the Project’s main initiatives were presented as well as future plans and activities. In addition, each regional group leader provided an overview of the group’s activities in the past as well as their plan for 2017.

The second part of the workshop was dedicated to round table discussions among all researchers in which international research collaborations among the Project’s researchers were explored as well as options for joint submission of research applications to funds such as the prestige EU-COST.

Listed below are the main topics raised by the group:

  •  “Workshop on wheels” – hold a workshop for the research community in which they shall present their research while moving through the Galician region or cities with relevant archives t such as: Lwów, Kraków, Czernowitz and Jerusalem.
  • Conference about the life and legacy of  Goldfaden – an event focusing on Abraham Goldfanden as an individual linking Galicia and Bukovina enabling a wider view of the emergence of modern Judaism  in these areas.
  • Regional workshops for general researches of Galicia and Bukovina aimed to draw additional researches to this area.
  • Publication of an academic book (150-200 pages) describing the history of the Jewish community in Galicia.
  • Publication of an academic book (150-200 pages) describing the history of the Jewish community in Bukovina.
  • Establish a combined research community in Ukraine-Poland.
  • Promote and prioritize literature and journalism digitization by forming an academic steering community.
  • Form a database of all researches of Galicia and Bukovina.
  • Setting a platform for academic teachers enabling them to share and compare syllabuses for courses dealing with Galicia and Bukovina as well as discussing educational matters.
